EVLT (Endovenous Laser Therapy)

What is endovenous laser therapy?

Endovenous laser therapy, or EVLT, is an alternative treatment option for varicose veins that is minimally invasive and presents fewer risks than conventional surgery. This is a fast procedure that restores your legs and improves your overall well-being.  The procedure is provided on an outpatient basis at our vein center in Los Angeles.

What are the benefits of laser vein removal in Beverly Hills?

First of all, EVLT solves the problem of impaired aesthetics and pain associated with varicose veins. Management methods or the so-called home treatment only keep the situation under control and strive to stall the symptoms.

In comparison with surgical vein stripping or ligation there are multiple benefits. EVLT takes less to perform than surgery and it is typically done in under an hour. No anesthesia is required and the patient can return to their everyday routine the same or the next day.

Surgery, on the other hand, lasts longer and the recovery is more demanding. After surgery, the patient needs to wear bandages on the legs for several days, which can turn into a few weeks.

EVLT has a low recurrence rate and the success rate, especially in comparison with vein stripping, is around 98%.

Lastly, with EVLT there are no surgical incisions, so there is no scarring.

Because of its superiority over other courses of treatment for varicose veins, some estimates predict that EVLT will become the standard and most widely used procedure for varicose vein removal.

How is endovenous laser therapy performed?

Before the procedure begins, the affected vein is identified and the area is prepared using an antiseptic ointment. A laser probe is inserted through a small entry point and ultrasound imaging is used to determine the positioning of the laser.

After the affected vein has been located, the laser is activated through it.  The vein reacts by shrinking and closing off, shutting off blood flow.  The blood is re-directed to normal, healthy veins, which improves circulation and relieves the symptoms. The probe is removed while the treated area receives compression bandages.  The entire process can be completed in under one hour.

Is it important where I do EVLT?

Yes, it is, because if the vein is not properly shut there is a risk of the problem recurring. Our vein center in Los Angeles is proud to specialize in EVLT with outstanding results.
